Following the successful Languages Strategy Workshop held at Victoria University of Wellington in February 2008, the Council for the Humanities accepted a recommendation that it should provide leadership in advancing discussion on languages policies in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The Council endorsed the statement on languages of the Human Rights Commission, and will initiate a discussion through the Humanities Research Network Forum with the aim of building links with interested people and organisations and increasing awareness of the importance of a languages policy for Aotearoa New Zealand.
