General information:

The Crown's primary interest in Maori radio is the role it can play in the regeneration of the Maori language. Iwi radio stations were established in the period 1989-1994 with NZ on Air as the lead Crown Agency. Te Mangai Paho assumed responsibility for funding all stations in 1995.Maori Radio has a key role to play in helping to realise the Maori Language Desired Outcomes and the Te Mangai Paho Board acknowledges the importance of regional and national Nga Manu Korero and Kapa Haka events and their contribution to achieving the outcomes described here. Consequently Funding has been set aside in order to support radio stations in providing a high quality broadcast of these events.

Application dates:

Board meetings are held every month and it is usual for applicants to be contacted within two days following the meeting with details of the decision.
