General information:

The Scheme compensates New Zealand authors for the loss of income through holdings of their books in New Zealand libraries. Authors may register if they are eligible to receive royalties for their books and if more than 50 copies are held in New Zealand libraries.

The Public Lending Right for New Zealand Authors Scheme was established with the passing of the Act on 29 September 2008. This scheme replaces the New Zealand Authors' Fund administered by Creative New Zealand.

Creative New Zealand will process the December 2008 payments to authors. The National Library of New Zealand (Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa) will administer the new scheme from the beginning of 2009.
