General information:
In 2004, Creative New Zealand has formed a partnership with the Blumhardt Foundation to support an annual curatorial internship, which will be co-ordinated by the Dowse. The time frame for the internship will be determined each year by the Dowse, depending on its programme needs and commitments. The duration of each internship should be no less than eight weeks and is likely to be no more than 16 weeks. The intern will carry out research at the Dowse on New Zealand craft/object art and applied/decorative arts, including the Blumhardt and Dowse collections, and on the wider sector. This research is expected to culminate in an exhibition at the Dowse and ideally, it will be supported by new writing in a publication accompanying the exhibition (funding permitting). The process for selection has yet to be determined but it is likely to be application/proposal-driven. Creative New Zealand is supporting the internship with $15,000. This funding will be directed towards the curatorial stipend, travel and accommodation. Aspects of these expenses will vary depending on the duration of the internship and the selected intern. If there is still funding available after these costs have been met, it will be directed towards production costs for a publication.
