Writing Pictures

Seminar

Writer/director Robert Sarkies (Scarfies, Out of the Blue) will talk to producer Philippa Campbell (Rain, Black Sheep, No. 2) about telling a story through pictures from both a writing and a directing perspective.

Right from the initial concept a screenwriter needs to think of their script as the blueprint for a piece of cinema. Although a film is a visual experience, a script is a piece of writing. So how can script best evoke image? And if it is true that a great film should make sense with the sound down, how can the story be told clearly through pictures - both by the writer and the director? The discussion will be framed with clips from Robert’s own work.
