Pompeii House and Garden

Lecture

The ancient city of Pompeii offers us a glimpse into the amazing interiors of Roman houses. Walls were often opened-up vistas of realistic and fanciful architecture, with panels featuring mythological scenes and landscapes. Dr Deuling’s lecture considers several Pompeian paintings in their indoor and outdoor contexts.

She is currently working on a monograph which treats allusions to buildings and works of art in Virgil's Aeneid., Dr Judy Deuling Judy Deuling is a senior lecturer in Classics at Victoria University of Wellington, where she teaches Bronze Age Aegean art
