Edwin Mares: Reasoning about Reasoning

Lecture

As a branch of philosophy, logic is the study of reasoning. Unlike psychologists, philosophers study reasoning in a normative way, we want to know not how people actually do reason, but how they should reason. The talk will explain the standard technique used to determine the rules of correct reasoning and argue that this technique is lacking; it yields some very unappealing results.
